The all-mighty wall
As I was walking around the city I found a piece of the old Berlin wall. It's not as sturdy and monolithic as I thought it would be. It stands twice my hight and only 30cm thick!
Cool, you will notice the base is longer on one side than the other. The longer side would face to the East (Russia's side)this was like this so if a vehicle tried to ram the wall the weight of the vehicle would be on the base and keep the wall up right. Of course this doesn't show the barbed wire and machine guns that patroled the wall either. cool pic
Yeah very scary thought to think you were literally trapped within your country. The tour guide said that people went to bed and woke up with the wall built. Then after the first wall was built there was another one built right next to the first. That made a no-mans-land where they could shoot you if you tried to make it to the other.
